History

Circolo Golf Villa d'Este was designed in 1926 by architect and renowned Irish golfer James Peter Gannon. The course covers 5760 yards, with a course par of 69 strokes. Opened in the same year, the facility is now considered Italy's premier golf destination, the 7th oldest golf course in Italy and one of the most recognized worldwide. The property has been the scene of the most prestigious international tournaments: since 1928 it has been the stage for the Italian Open 12 times, claiming the merit of being the club in Italy with the most editions played.

Since 1932 it has also hosted editions of the International Amateur Championships several times, both men's and women's. Golf Villa d'Este has welcomed notable figures from all over Europe and the world, including members of royal families from the Bourbons to the Windsors, and numerous familiar faces from cinema, such as Gregory Peck, and influential figures in global industry, such as John Heinz and Sergio Arcellaschi, honored for his long and consistent loyalty to Villa d'Este.

It was recently awarded “Best Golf Club in Italy” at the Leading Courses Golfers' Choice Awards 2024, a prize that celebrates club excellence. This prestigious award adds to the recognitions received in 2022 and 2023 as the best Italian course. The award was based on an evaluation that considered the quality of the course, design, maintenance of the greens, variety of the path, and professionalism of the staff. President Alberto Beretta expressed great satisfaction, emphasizing that this success is the result of the constant commitment of the entire staff.
